Transit Effectiveness Project logoWelcome to the website of the Transit Effectiveness Project (TEP)—a collaboration between the SFMTA and the City Controller’s Office that represents the first top-to-bottom review of San Francisco's public transit system in over a generation. TEP recommendations are designed to make Muni service more reliable, quicker and more frequent. To learn more about the TEP, click here.

What's New:

TEP Recommendations to be considered by SFMTA Board

The TEP has incorporated public input to refine its draft proposals into a set of Staff Recommendations. The next milestone is for the these recommendations to be considered by the SFMTA Board of Directors on September 16, 2008. Click here for details.

In advance of the SFMTA Board of Directors meeting, the Staff Recommendations will be discussed in a series of advisory group meetings, all of which are open to the public and will provide an opportunity for residents, riders, and stakeholders to offer feedback about the recommendations.

Following any requisite environmental assessments, approved changes could be implemented as early as July 2009.

Comments on the Staff Recommendations may also be submitted directly to the SFMTA Board:

Spring 2008 Community Meetings

From April 19th - May 17th, the TEP held 11 community meetings across the City to collect public input on draft proposals to transform Muni. At each meeting, the TEP presented strategies to improve on-time performance and reliability system wide and discussed proposed changes to routes. Over 1,200 people attended and we have since received over 3,000 comments through the web and through the City's 311 Customer Service Center. The formal public comment period on the draft TEP proposals ended June 15, 2008 to enable the project team to further refine the proposals to incorporate stakeholder input.

Watch the video of the last TEP community meeting. Community meeting materials are posted in Additional Documents.

Muni Ridership Data Available Online

Ridership data for each weekday service bus and rail line is now available online at www.sfmta.com/tepdata. From October 2006 to June 2007, the SFMTA captured a tremendous amount of information on its bus and rail lines, including exactly where customers are boarding vehicles and how many people are riding the system throughout the day.
